IDE-Style Workbench
A terminal laid out like a JetBrains IDE: tool panels on three sides, tabs and splits in the middle.
Anxeb Terminal is not a single terminal window: it is a workbench modeled on the JetBrains IDEs (WebStorm, new UI). The window has a stripe of tool buttons on each side, side panels on the left and right, a bottom panel, a center panel with tabs and splits, and a status bar.
Each stripe button shows or hides one tool. The left stripe carries VPN Connections, AI Sessions, Active Sessions, Agents, Remote Hosts and Projects. At its foot are the buttons of the bottom panel (Log and the wide Live Monitor). The right stripe carries Notifications, Remote Files and Live Monitor. On top of the left stripe is the app menu (☰); Settings is a dialog of that menu.
Side panels are stacks: several tools can be open at once, one under the other, and the gap between two resizes them. A click on a tool title folds it to its header. When the panel is too short for every tool, the ones opened least recently fold by themselves. When the window is resized, the tool on top keeps its height and the ones under it take the change. The bottom panel puts its tools side by side, with a divider between them; a click on a header hides that tool.
Every tool has an Options menu (the ⋯ in its header). In a side panel it also sets how tall the tool is: Fixed Height keeps the height it has, Extended Height takes what the others leave, Content Height makes it as tall as its content and follows it as it grows; with none Extended, the lowest one stretches. Its own entries come first, such as Collapse All or Expand All for a tree; then, after a line, the moves every tool shares (Hide, Move Up, Move Down, Move to Right…), each with its icon; and last Send Feedback… about that tool.
The panels float on the window frame as islands with a gap between them. Only the four outer corners of the whole are rounded; corners that face another panel stay square, so the workbench reads as one piece. The gap is a setting (1 to 14 px).
Everything about the layout is remembered: which tools are open, folded or hidden, where each one sits, the width of the side panels and the height of the bottom one. Tool buttons can be dragged to reorder a panel or to move a tool to the other side.
What it does
- Three panels (left, right, bottom) plus a center panel of tabs and splits.
- Stacked tools in side panels, with folding and drag-to-resize gaps.
- Side-by-side tools in the bottom panel.
- Drag tool buttons to reorder or to move a tool to the other side.
- Twin tools: Live Monitor exists as a side tool and as a wide bottom tool, and only one is in view at a time.
- Layout saved and restored on every start.
- Window resizes keep the height of the top tool of a side panel.
- Each side tool sets its height from its menu: Fixed (keeps its height), Extended (takes what is left) or Content (as tall as its list).
- Fresh install: VPN Connections, Active Sessions, Agents and Projects on the left, Live Monitor on the right, the Log below.
- Options menu per tool: its own entries, the shared moves with icons, and Send Feedback….
- A status bar with a breadcrumb of the content in view, its own figures (terminal grid size, cursor position, encoding…) and the notification bell.
How it behaves
- Hiding a panel gives its space to the center; when the window shrinks, side panels give up space before the center does.
- Header buttons of a tool fade in while the cursor is over the panel.
- A secondary click on a stripe button offers the moves allowed for that tool.
Why it matters
- One window for servers, files, monitoring, AI agents and notes: no juggling between apps.
- Familiar to anyone who uses JetBrains IDEs.
