Detach to New Windows

Pull any tab into its own window for another monitor; it reopens there with the right tools around it.

Detach, in the menu of a tab and of the sessions in Active Sessions, moves a tab to a new window: a new instance of the app that can go to another monitor. Open in New Window, in the menus of AI Sessions and Remote Hosts, opens a session or a host straight in one.

A live process cannot move between processes, so the new window opens the content again. An SSH session connects again; an AI session is ended here and resumed there with its whole conversation; a local terminal starts in the same folder; a file opens at its cursor line; a scratch takes its text; a project opens its tab.

The new window starts with every panel closed except what suits its content. An SSH session gets Remote Files at the right and the wide Live Monitor below. An AI session gets Active Sessions at the left. The new window shares the data of the main one and saves no layout of its own.

These pictures show those two layouts. Detach and Open in New Window are not shown in the demo, which never starts other instances.

What it does

  • Detach any tab to a new window.
  • Open hosts and AI sessions straight in a new window.
  • Content-aware layouts for the new window.
  • AI conversations resume in the new window.

How it behaves

  • Each window restores its own tabs after an update, and on the next start (see Reopen Where You Left Off).

Why it matters

  • Multi-monitor workflows: a server per screen, an agent per screen.
