Remote Hosts
All your servers in one tree: groups, jump hosts, live reachability and one-click sessions.
The Remote Hosts tool keeps the servers of the user. Each host has a label, address, port, user, password or key file, icon, color, an optional parent (a jump host), a group and an optional VPN. Hosts are added and edited in a form dialog (see Host Editor) and deleted from their menu.
The list is a tree. Hosts with a parent go under it, indented, and the parent folds them with its arrow. Hosts without a parent go under their group: Edge, Production, Databases… or Unsorted. A search box on top filters by label, address, user and group, and keeps the parents of what matches.
A dot before each host tells its state: pale yellow when it has a session on screen, green when its SSH port answers, red when it does not, amber when a VPN on the way is down, grey when it was not looked at yet. Ports are checked every 15 seconds while the tool is on screen; a host reached through its parent takes the state of the first host on its way.
A click opens an SSH session in the center panel, or brings its session to the front. The menu of a host offers Open, Open New Session, Browse Files (in Remote Files), View Monitor (in Live Monitor), Sudo Login, Edit, New Host Here and Delete. In the full app it also offers Open in New Window.
What it does
- Tree of hosts with parents (jump hosts) and colored groups.
- Live reachability dots, refreshed every 15 seconds.
- Search by label, address, user and group.
- Collapse All or Expand All in the Options menu of the tool; what is folded is remembered.
- Per-host menu that connects sessions, files and monitoring.
How it behaves
- Deleting a parent keeps the hosts under it, unsorted.
- With "Open one at a time" in Settings, opening a group folds the others.
Why it matters
- Every server one click away, with its state at a glance.
